HOME FOR AGED BLIND
ADDITION TO INSTITUTE ERECTION OF NEW BUILDING FURTHER FUNDS NEEDED A pleasant home for the accommodation ot 28 blind men who are no longeT able to work is to be erected in the grounds of the Wind Institute. The building, which has been designed by Messrs. Gummer and Ford, will be in red brick_jvith a tile roof to harmonise with the existing premises of the institute and should prove a handsome addition to the block. Tho home will be of two .storeys and will bo completely self-contained, having a kitchen and dispensary and all necessary equipment. The building has been so planned that it will be possible to make additions. Tho erection of the home is to bo financed principally from £3500 specially set aside in the Sir Arthur Pearson memorial fund, administered by tho institute, and from money expected under wills. Approximately £BOO is anticipated in subsidy on wages under tho Unemployment Board's No. 10 scheme, and £GIO has been contributed by blind people who regard the establishment of this homo as ono of the best steps yet taken by the board of trustees. Tho total sum available, however, will not bo sufficient to meet tho entire cost, and tho trustees state that while they are not launching an appeal they l'oel there may bo some members of the public who would like to contribute. They will be grateful for any support. While there is a real need for tho home, the trustees have expedited the scheme, believing it to be sound to maintain a policy of useful spending to contribute to the provision of work. The plans and the capital expenditure involved have received tho approval of the Minister of Health, the Hon. J. A. Young, who has congratulated the trustees on their decision to build tho home.
