PREMIERS CONFER
CONSTITUTIOIST CONVENTION SCHEME NOT FAVOURED MELBOURNE, June 14 The Commonwealth Government has abandoned for tho time'being its proposal to hold a constitution convention. When the question was discussed at the Premiers' Conference only the representatives of Tasmania and South Australia supported tho plan. Tho representatives of the other States supported a proposal by Mr. B. S. Stevens (New South Wales) that before tho convention is held a conference of Premiers should deal with the existing difficulties and, in effect, carry out useful preparatory work. It was agreed that tho conference be held early in 1934. The Premier of Western Australia, Mr. P. Collier, indicated that he would submit tho case for tho separation of that Stato from the Commonwealth to tho British authorities. He implied a rejection of the case for secession by adding that after tho decision was reached bo would bo prepared to take part in any conference with other States and later join in tho constitution convention.
