CHAIRMAN RETIRES MR. G. J. COHEN'S SUCCESSOR (Received June 14, 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, June 11 The retirement of Mr. George Judah Cohen, chairman of directors of the Commercial Banking Company of Sydney, is announced. Mr. Cohen has been chairman since 1901 and has been associated with the bank for 48 years. He is regarded as ail outstanding financial authority. Mr. James Ashton, M.L.G., is to succeed Mr. Cohen. Mr. G. J. Cohen retired from the directorate of the Australian Gas Light Company on January 5, alter having been associated with the eompanv for more than 4G years. He was chairman of directors for 44 years. Mr. Cohen, who celebrated his 91st birthday on April 27 last, is also a senior director of a number of important banking and commercial companies. He was Svdnev in 1842 and is a son ot the late Mr Samuel Cohen, of David Cohen and Companv. He was educated at University College, London. He first became associated with the gas industry in Maitland in 1870. He was made chairman of the local gas company. "J time he was manager at a sal.u J > less than £SO a year.
