ACTIVITIES OF ORDERS INSTALLATION CEREMONIES SOCIAL GATHERINGS HELD The Endeavour Lodge, 1.0. G.T., had a crowded attendance last week, the occasion being a special one, members of the district wishing to show their esteem and high regard for P.C.R., Bro. Melville Watts, of H.M.S. Diomede, who was about to be married. All the lodges were well represented and an official visit was paid by the Enterprise Lodge, Onehunga. Bro. Pepper, C.T., presided at the opening ceTemonies and welcomed the visitors. The Enterprise Lodge was then received and Bro. Pace, . G.S.J.W.. was invited to preside. The arrival was then announced of Bro. Watts and Miss Marshall, who were given a hearty welcome. Before the business concluded, Bro. Moore, D.C.T., assumed temporary charge and representatives from each lodge paid tribute to the great work done by Bro. Watts for the cause of good templary. Presentations were made to Bro. Watts and Miss Marshall. The Enterprise officers then resumed control and an enjoyable time %vas spent with items of all kinds. Ihe serving of refreshments brought a happy evening to a close. The Waitoa Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F., had a good attendance at its last meeting, N.G., Bro. Bigwood, presiding. The social programme for the quarter was submitted by Bro. Fraser and was adopted unanimously. The election of officers for the new term resulted as follows: —N.G., Bro. Collichan; V.G.. Sis. H. Bigwood; elective secretary. Bro. Klaus; warden, Bro. Hanlon. Alberta Lodge, No. 53, 1.0.0. F., inaugurated its winter programme by a debate. The subject chosen for discussion was a proposal to institute a State lottery. It was an integral part of the proposal that such an institution would be of very considerable financial benefit to the Dominion and deflect the flow of money from foreign to domestic uses. It was further contended that no serious, if any, adverse effects to the morality of the community would result. For the negative it was contended that the evils resultant from the establishment of such a scheme would far outweigh any social or ltlier benefits that would or rould accrue. The result, taken bv secret ballot, was a majority in favour of the proposaj. The opposing teams were led by Bro. W. C. McCombie Jr., for the affirmative and Bro. R. McGregor, V.G., for the negative. The N.G., Bro. C. E. Seccombe, made a very capable and efficient chairman. Another debate will follow shortly. The Youthful Enterprise Temple. 1.0. G.T., gave a birthday party on Thursday to the deputy-marshal. Sis. G. Pace. About 100 members and friends were present. A large birthday cake had been presented by Sis. E. Cant. Bro. J. Chadderton, district councillor and first superintendent of the .temple, congratulated the guest of honour and wished her every success. After tea the tamplo was called to order by the superintendent and a short session was held,' Sis. C. McCarthy, C.T., presiding. Six new moinbers were initiated, making 21 new ones in threp weeks The temple then closed and the remainder of the time was spent in games and items. The Loval Mount Albert Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F., met last Wednesday evening in St. Luke's Hall, Morningside, Bro. H. Hunter, N.G., presiding over a very fine attendance of members and visitors. Among the visitors were Bro. W. McMillan, P.D.G.M.. and representatives from the _ Loyal Britannia (Wellington), Hauraki, Good Intent, and Ponsonby Lodges. One new member was initiated into the order. A pleasing interlude took place when Bro. McMillan, P.D.G.M.. presented Bro. Marshall, of the Hauraki Lodge, with a token of esteem on behalf of the members of his lodge, and also with a past secretary's jewel. Bro. G. Tapp. P.G.. took the position of installing officer for the purpose of installing the officers recently elected, being ably assisted by Bros. F. Mackay and F. Furnell, who acted as conductors. Those installed were Bro. C. Watson, N.G.; Bro. E. Wainhouse, V.G.; Bro. Walker, elec. sec.; and Bro. Houten, I.P.N.G. Sister H. Smith was then installed as warden by the new noble grand. A fitting finish to a well-carried-out ceremony was the splendid address on their various duties given to the officers by Bro. McMillan. After the business had been dealt with an enjoyable time was spent in dancing to music by the lodge orchestra. , The Enterprise Lodge, 1.0. G.T., met on Thursday evening in the Methodist Hall, Onehunga, the C.T., Sister Jameson, presiding over a good attendance. After the opening ceremonies a visit was received from the officers and members of Gordon Tent, 1.0. R., who were warmly welcomed. The essential business was quickly dealt with and a social evening was then spent. At the fortnightly meeting of the Loval Ponsonby Lodge, M.TJ.1.0.0.F., held at the Renall Street Hall last week, the half-yearly installation of officers was carried out, Bro. N. S. Bougher, P.G., acting as installation officer. The occupants of the principal | seats are:—N.G., Bro. Cunningham; V.G., Sister O'Halloran; elective secretary,'Bro. Evans. The installing master gave a short address to the officers at the conclusion of the ceremony. The honours of the order were then conferred upon the newlv-installed officers, each of whom suitably responded. The Maungarei Rebekah Lodge. 10 OF., met last week in the Royal Oak Hall, the N.G., Sister W. Higgins, presiding over a good attendance, j lie ordinary business was promptly despatched, being followed by a concert and dance, arrangements for which were in the capable hands of Sister Watson and Sister E. Whitmore, P.G. Supper was served after the items and the remainder of the evening was spent in dancing. The I.oyal Tuakau Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F., had a very large attendance at its meeting last week, when the installation of officers for the new term took place. Bro. F. Hard, P.D.G.M., acted as installing master, being assisted by P.D.G.M. Bro. Gibb, Group Officer Bro. C. Ryder, P.G., and Bro. R. Black, P.G. The new officers are as follows: —N.G., Sister M. Lapwood; V.G., Bro. 0. Lindberg; R.S.N.G., Bro. P. Lapwood; L.S.N.G., Bro. Logan; R.S.V.G.. Bro. G. Asher; L.S.V.G., Sister E. Woolley; elective secretary, Bro. K. Hurkin; guardian, Bro. C. Podgers; conductors, Sister A. Hawko and Bro. F. Geraghty; 1.P.N.G., Bro. A. Billinghurst; pianistes, "Sisterß H. Bush and P. Collins. The evening closed with dancing and games of ping pong, which were followed by sjipper. On the Thursday evening the lodge held a very successful dance in aid of the fund for distressed members. Tho Shining Star Juvenile Temnle, 1.0. G.T., met at Penrose last week, nearly 100 members being in attendance."Three now members were initiated. •V visit was received from Bro. J.
