PROPOSED WOOL BOARD

Sir, —The proposal to form a Wool Board appears to me to be another case of overlapping, an evil much too prevalent in this Dominion already. We have a Meat Board, which, beyond a very small amount of beef and pork, is run almost entirely by the sheep farmers. We also have a wool committee, which meets each year and decides upon the number of bales allowed to each wool sale. Now it is proposed to set up a Wool Board. This means three different organisations working for the sheep farmor. One board could do the whole work just as well, with less expense; in fact, the Meat Board could do it better than any other body, because it is a wealthy organisation and has round about £IOO,OOO in hand, much of it in Government securities. It would not require, for the present at least, any further levy, having ample funds on hand; it has offices and officers iu both the Dominion and London; it is in close touch with the shippers and has a full knowledge of freights and would get ahead from the commercial side much quicker than a new organisar tion. If there are not sufficient members of the Meat Board to cope with the wool side of the business, alter the board's constitution and elect three or four more'members, and charge the new men with the special duty of attending to wool, its production costs, its selling costs, freight charges, improvement in quality and get-up. new markets, new uses, etc. Owen C. Pleasants. Matiere.
