CANVASSER'S OFFENCE ADMITTED TO PROBATION A plea of guilty was entered by a canvasser, Joseph Frederick John Zanianek, aged 55, who was charged before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday, with committing theft by failing to pay sums totalling £29 6s 7d to Hughes and Cossar, Limited." "* Detective-Sergeant O'Sullivan said accused had been discharged from hospital only yesterday morning, and was still in ill-health. He had been employed as a salesman on a commission basis, and the police had obtained statements that lie had received sums of money from several people, but had not paid the amounts. Accused was admitted to 12 months' probation. Appearing on a remand, a sailor, Alfred Leslie Williams, aged 21, was charged with wilful and obscene exposure in Victoria Road, Devonport, on Monday. Accused was handed oyer to the naval authorities, the magistrate saying ho understood the accused could be' dealt with adequately.
