THE SAILORS' HOME
AUCKLAND INSTITUTION PAST YEAR'S ACTIVITIES "We give a lot of assistance to sailers during these difficult times, so we expect the home to be a payable concern," said Mr. R. T. Michaels, retiring president, at the annual meeting of the Auckland Sailors' Homo last evening. Mr. Michaels said the year ended ■with a credit balance of £IOB. While that was satisfactory, the result was achieved only because of two donations, totalling £750. It would still bo necessary to rely largely on the generosity of the Auckland public, while it was hoped a further donation would be received from the King George's Fund for Sailors, London, which gavo £250 for the Samaritan work done by the home Jast year. Referring to the opening of the new building of the Flying Angel Mission to Seamen, adjacent to the home, Mr. Michaels said all the religious bodies <lo?ng work on the waterfront wero now grouped together, and if other •similar, organisations wanted facilities for such work, the Sailors' Home would he pleased to assist. The Hon. C. J. Carrington, M.L.C., paid a tribute to Mr. Michaels' administrative ability' during his two years as president. Mr. Carrington also thanked Mr. Michael* for the sentiments expressed on the subject of ministerinte to the religious needs of sailors, and the facilities available to all organisations at the home. The following officers were elected: President, Mr. D. B. Patterson; vicepresident, Mr. W. M. Jackson; council, the Hon. C. J. Carrington. tho Hon. J. Trevethick, Mr. G. R. Magec, Mr. R. T. Michaels, Mr. E. H. Potter, Mr. G. W. Sanders and Mr. T. N. omalhyood; honorary surgeon, Dr. D. X. W, Murray.
