TARIFF COMMISSION
IMPORTED HANDKERCHIEFS HIGHER DUTY REQUESTED [BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Saturday A brief sitting of the Tariff Commission was held this morning. Dr. G. Craig, Comptroller of Customs, presided, and the other members were Professor B. E. Murphy, Mr. G. A. Pascoe and Mr. J. B. Gow. John Henry Taylor, manager of Thomas Heany and Company (New Zealand), asked for an increase of 5 per cent in the duty on imported handkerchiefs, bringing the tariff up to 25 per cent. He also requested that the duty on dutiable art needlework be maintained, and the present non-duti-j able art needlework be placed in the same category as that on which duty is charged.
