Mrs. Harold Cotter leaves to-day by motor 011 tier return to Whangarei.

Sir Reginald and Lady Skelton, of Loudon, who have been visting the Westland glaciers, have returned to Christchurch and are the guests of Mr. H. 0. Dovenish.

The annual ball of tho North Devonport Ratepayers and Residents' Association was held at the Pirate Ship at Milford on Saturday evening and was attended by over 200 dancers.

A meeting of the Auckland branch of tho Mothers' Thought Guild was held at the residence of Mrs. Hemus, Belvedere Street, Epsom. Mrs. Baigent presided, and the speaker was Mrs. Fisher, who took/ for her subject "Our Social Problems." At the close of the meeting jui appeal was made for funds to make possible tho printing of a new leaflet.

Mrs. Theo Kerr-Taylor was hostess hi a card evening held at her residence on Thursday in aid of the Waikoukou Valley Tennis Club's court improvement' fund. Bridge and five hundred •were played, the winners being Mrs. A. Kerr-Taylor and Mrs. J. Dakers respectively. Supper was served. Among the players were Mesdames A. KerrTaylor, J. Dakers, T. Kerr-Taylor, Miss Coughlan, L. Owen, E. Coughlan.

The fourth of a series of card afternoons nnder the auspices of the Ellerslie Croquet Club was held in the pavi-» lion on Wednesday. The prizes were -non by Mrs. Chapman, Miss Hunter and Mrs. Christmas. Among those playing were Mesdames Taylor, Anderson, Mays, Sharp, Trebilcock, Christmas, Chapman, Laird, Crawford and Miss Hunter. Mesdames Gollan and Richmond were tho hostesses for the ai'terroon.

" Maori Song and Story " was tho title of a most interesting afternoon at the Women's Progress Club, held at the Higher Thought Temple, Welllington Street. The talk was given by Mrs. Rhodes-Robinson and was illustrated by six Maori songs, which wore charmingly rendered by Miss Bertha Havwood, one of which was a "Chant to Taranaki Mountain," set to music specially composed by the singer for the occasion. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the two ladies, being carried by acclamation at the close of the recital.

At a fancv dress dance which was held recently in the Picturo Palace, Waimiha,- the first prize for the most original costume was won by Mrs. K. Natali, who represented Aladdin's Lam'i, and Mrs. j. Jones won the prize as 'Arriet in the most comic section. Mr. L./ Wicks as a Chinese and Mr. R. Pasdon' as a Circus Clown witli his donkey were also prize-winners, Mr. H. Brovd and Mr. L. Hutchinson assisting with the donkey'. The judges were: Mrs. It. Lamb. Mrs. J. Luke and Mr. N. Pussien. The hall was gaily decorated with, pungas and red, green and gold streamers.

The dance lield annually at the commencement of the football season bv the Taupiri Rugby Football Club was a great success. Among the ladies present were: —Mesdames C. Lovell, W. Moore, 12. Hutchinson, J. Sweeney, V. Tapper, M. Cateley, Burt, p. McFarlane, and B. Brown.

The monthly bridge, and five hundred evening in connection with St. John s Church, Parnell, was held in the rooms of the Catholic Women's League and proved most enjoyable.
