CONFERENCE REMITS IMPORTANT PROPOSALS COMPULSORY JUMPING RACES Remits to tho annual meeting of tho New Zealand Kacing Conference to bo held in Wellington next mouth contain many matters of interest. The Auckland District Clubs North (Dargaville Racing Club) move that the control of race meetings should be transferred from club stewards to stipendiaries. They also propose that at least two of tho three judges appointed by tho president of the Racing Conference to hear an appeal must be men with actual experience in the control of racing. The Southland Racing Club considers that ono judge, to act as chairman, should be tho president or his appointee, who should be a member of the conference, and that one judge, a member of a district committee, should be appointed by the executive, these two judges to select tho third judge. The Auckland Racing Club asks that at least one steeplechase or hurdle race a day 6hould be included in the programme of every race meeting. The Auckland District Clubs South (Waikato Hacing Club) make a similar request, and consider that the distance of all open hurdle races should not be less than li mleis. The Wanganui District Clubs (Marlon Jockey Club) suggest that there should be at least one steeplechase or hurdle race a day in programmes between March 1 and September 1. The Auckland facing Club seeks deletion of the rule requiring an Bst. minimum from June 7 to August 15. At present a hack is defined as a horse that has not won a race of the value of £250 or more to the winner, or races of the aggregate value of. £'soo or , more to the winner. The Canterbury Jockey Club proposes that values should be reduced to £'2oo and £4OO respectively. The Executive Committee proposes that the Dales and Licensing Committees of the conference should be abolished and their duties transferred to it. Prohibition of the use of fixed martingales is proposed by tho Executive Committee. NOTES FROM EVERYWHERE TRACK AND STABLE GOSSIP The rising two-year-old colt by Paper Money from a Tea Tray mare that is Ileitis prepared at Elleislio by G. Holland has settled down to his work in good style. Ho is it solid stump of youngster and is thriving well on the easy tasks lie is being allotted. Clogher, the rising two-year-old colt by Colossus from Sanguinaria, has been brought ill from the paddock by Mr. A. D. Potter and is to be broken in l'isht away. Mr. Potter's other colt, Slainte. by Colossus from Wnikohu, is a big youngster and lie is not to commence his education till later on. Tho latest- addition to I.'. W. Scully's team at Ellerslie is a three-year-old unnamed full-sister to Mahora, by Lackham from Morzonia. The filly arrived from Dunnevirke on Thursday evening and is a bay with white blaze. She has a peculiarity about one of her ears, the peak of which is turned back and caught to the back of the ear. Tho four-year-old gelding Chief Clerk, bv Chief Ruler from Kaiserin, is thriving splendidly on the useful tasks he is being allotted by P. W. Scftlly and his condition is showing marked improvement. Chief Clerk won only one small race when raced extensively last season, but he looks better after a spell and may come into his own as a five-year-old. Sunny Sky has recovered from the lameness which came against her before the winter meeting and is again domir easy work. A. D. Adams has made no definite arrangements regarding lior future programme. It was his intention to tnko liei back to Gisborne. but now that she is sound again he may keep her at Ellerslie for the spcciaf meeting on July 22. CAREER OF AWAKEN 7 RETIREMENT THOUGHT LIKELY The Chief Ruler mare Awaken has been taken out of training and probably the last has been seen of her on the race track Awaken was a good mare when right and shaped particularly well us a two-year-old. winning over £IOOO m stake-money Unfortunately she was prone to soreness that orevented her from racing at times when otherwise very fit. She was responsible for an outstanding feat in these days in winning two euceesfiive races at the hgmont meeting last season. Her . tola «(nke eanungs rmiomi ted 1o approximately £.1200. As a brood mare Awaken should be valuable, being from Wake 'Up. by Bezoman from Somniforin, tho latter by Boiuform from Dreamer, a sister to Bon ueve.
