HELP IN TIME OF NEED
Sir, —The deputation to the actingPrime Minister proposed the raising of £10,000,000 for the relief of unemployment. Hut this scheme deals only with the " able-bodied unemployed." In New Zealand we have many hundreds of unemployed women and girls who were solely dependent on their earnings for their own support, or were partially or wholly supporting a home. There arc also the C class men, many of whom will never be able to resume their former occupations, but who, with the assistance of their wives could, if given the opportunity, do a great deal to assist themselves. J.hc whole of these people are at present dependent on the hospital and charitable aid hoards, on social and other relief organisations, or on the goodwill of thou friends. They have at present very little to look forward to in life, to a certain extent they are leit by the wayside. But though these peoplo aro very depressed ami feel a little hitter toward the more fortunate, they have a wonderful fortitude and aro Ining daily in the hopes that very soon their claims of the right to be raised abovo the receipt of charity will he recognised. Their hopes are that very shortly thev will be recognised as worthy <>t inclusion in one or other of Lie schemes which could bo made for their benefit. Let us hope the citizens' committees will not overlook them. Hkliki.
