Sutherland, shcepfarmer. of Hinakura, Wairarapa, has been admitted for probate. The estate is sworn by the executors at £82.000. Charitable bequests include £250 to the Salvation Army Children's Home, Wellington; £SOO to the Presbyterian Orphanage, Wellington; £SOO to be set aside and the income applied during ten years toward the stipend of the Presbyterian minister or missioner at Hinakura, and the principal at the end of 10 years to be paid to the Presbyterian Church at Hinakura. After the provision of an annuity to a number of old station bands tho residue of the estate is to be given in trust for the benefit of deceased's family. Mr. Sutherland, who \ras 79, died at Ngaitu Station, Hinakura, on April 27. He was the son of Mr. Alexander Sutherland, who came to New Zealand from Scotland in 1849. Mr. I). M. Sutherland was born in Wellington, and on the death of his father entered partnership with his brother, tho late Mr. William Sutherland. They took up tho Ngaitu property, a very large estate, which was later subdivided into four properties, ar.d which at that time was virgin country. By their efforts the brothers made it one of the finest stations in the Wairarapa district.

On tho death of his brother Mr. Sutherland carried on the estate until 19J3, when he retired from active farming and leased the property to his three sons, Messrs. Alexander, William and Kenneth Sutherland. Mr. William Sutherland was killed during the Great War, and after his death the other sons worked tho property. In 1906 Mr. Sutherland bought a largo area of land at Kelburn, Wellington, where he had a town residence. This property he later subdivided into residential sites. During the past few years Mr. Sutherland had made a practice of going abroad during the winter months. Formerly he took a keen interest in pastoral and local body affairs in the Waiarapa, but of late lived in complete retirement. Mr. Sutherland is survived by a widow, the two sons, and four daughters, Mrs. 11. W. Roydhouse, of Carterton, Mrs. J. Prendeville, of Wellington, .Mrs. E. P. Cameron, of Pahiua, Wairarapa, and Miss 31. Sutherland, of Ngaitu.
