A DUTCH MARKET

TYPICAL HOLLAND SCENE FUNDS FOR Y.W.C.A. IN- CHINA Many novel ideas have been evolved by different organisations in Auckland for the surrounding of bazaars with an atnnsphere of colourful and unique interest, and to this the Dutch Market, held by the Y.W.C.A. yesterday, and to bo continued to-day, is no exception. To a great extent the reason for making the fair a Dutch market was out of compliment to Miss van Ascli van Wyek, of Holland, the world president of tho Y.W.C.A., who is expected to arrive 011 a visit to Auckland in July. Great care had been taken by the organisers to make the representation of a Dutch market correct in every detail, and their efforts were rewarded by tho tribute paid by Mrs. E. Bauer, wife of the vice-Consul for the Netherlands, who opened the fair. The stalls were attractively set out in the assembly hall, some being faced with cloudy blue paper to represent the Zuyder Zee and others having windmills arranged at each side. A drop scene of Holland at the back of tho stage, the work of Mrs. Tilsley, was an attractive feature, and the helpers ut each stall had also attired themselves in typical Dutch costumes with itdinirablo effect.

In declaring the fair open, Mrs. Bauer, who was introduced by Mrs. A. D. Campbell, president of the association, spoke, of the splendid work beintr done by Miss Nessie Monerieff at the Y.W.C.A. in Peiping, China, for which fund tho function was being held. "It is the one national organisation for Chinese women, its standard of honesty and integrity is recognised everywhere and it is undoubtedly making a creat contribution to the life of China," Mrs. Bauer said in appealing for the support of the public. A series, of entertainments was arranged, Madame Baird's pupils civine demonstrations of poetic dancinc last evening, while to-day pupils of Miss Sheat will give dancing and sinsme numbers and. the Y.AY.C.A. Tres Bon Club will present a ballet and a duologue. Two reproductions of Dutch masterpieces, Vermeer's "Cook" and Verspronek's "Portrait of a Little Lady," will also be given by girl citizens.
