LADIES' AUXILIARY
A SOCIAL AFTERNOON A largo gathering of members of the -Auckland frit. Andrew's Society Ladies' Auxiliary met in the rooms of the League of New Zealand Penwomen yesterday for the monthly social afternoon. The president, Mrs. W. Black, prosided. A description of a recent trip to California was given by Mrs. John Barr, whose account of her visit to the Met.ro-Goldwyn-Mayer film studios in Hollywood was of particular interest. The studio, she said, covered (19 acres, and employed a staff of 2000 people. She explained briefly the process of filming a picture and gave many interesting accounts of film actors and actresses she had met. A programme of Scottish songs and elocutionary items was presented by Mrs. Morrison McDonald, Mrs. de Berg and Mrs. B. Budge, and afternoon tea was served by the committee. The honorary pianist for the society, Miss Lilian Braithwaite, was the recipient of a crystal dish, presented by Mrs. Black on behalf of the members in appreciation of her past services to the society.
