LADIES' HOCKEY

improved combination Weather conditions permitted the deciding of the third series of games under the control of the Auckland Ladies' Hockey Association last Saturday, when two games in the senior grade were played, resulting in wins for Wesley and Clevedon. The grounds were in good order although a little slippery after tho recent rain. Nevertheless better hockey was provided than on the two previous Satudays, ancl at times some good manoeuvres were carried out. . . ~ A good exhibition for so early in the season was provided by the Technical and Clevedon senior teams. Both resorted to harl hitting for the greater part of the game and, although technical lacked finish, it was a greatly improved team. Technical's mam weakness was in tho forward line. Ihe back division did good work, but should einnlov more forethought when clearing. Clevedon, too, showed great improvement. Miss Munro, fullback, did fine work for her side Miss Hyde scored four of Clevedon s five goals, Miss Smith being the wtlier scorer Miss Potter scored Technical s ono and only - e °hi the other game between Wesley and Ngaro another good contest was provided. Ngaro, like Technical is rapidly gaining strength and should before long justify its promotion to the senior grade. Although Wesley had little trouble in lowering Ngaro s colours, owing to better combination, some weakness was apparent in the hairline,. and slowness in feeding the forwards retarded the team's movements. Miss Rossi tor, in Wesley s forward line, did good work, and with Mrs. White made up the_ total of five goals, Miss Rossiter netting three times. Wesley's defence was good. For Ncaro Miss Bragg, left wing, worried Wesley more than 1 any otJ*or player, her speedlv runs down the line causing it. much concern at times. It Miss Bragg had centred at the 25yds. line instead of taking the ball too far down, there is very possibility that Ngaro's score would have been larger. Miss D. Rhodes, Ngaro's other wing, was also prominent, and Miss Scouller did good work. Miss Clegg, in goal, proved her worth and the defence was much stronger than in previous games.
