TROUT ILLEGALLY TAKEN
WRONG BAIT USED TWO MEN ADMIT CHARGE [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] ROTORUA, Tuesday In the Magistrate's Court G. I. Care and James McLean pleaded guilty to a charge of using bait other than artificial fly when trout fishing in the Taohwhaaturoa Stream on April 16. Mr. A. Kean, conservator for the llotorua district, said that on a ranger making investigations he found that the defendants had been using a spoon bait when trout fishing in the fly-fishing area. They had six trout in their possession, which had been taken from the stream. McLean said that his companion was a stranger to the district and had gone fishing with him at his invitation. He (McLean) did not know they were in the fly-fishing area, as he thought the stream they were fishing was the Whangapoa. A fine of £2 and 12s costs was imposed upon each defendant by the magistrate, Mr. S. L. Paterson.
