Mr. H. G. R. Mason, M.P., returned from Wellington yesterday. Mr. Francis Hull, of Park Avenue, is a patient in a private hospital. Mr. A. Urquhart, staff superintendent of the Railway Department, left for the South by the limited express last evening. • Dr. J. W! Mcllraitli will leave for Wellington on Sunday evening to take over his new duties as chief, inspector of schools. Mr. W. H. Price, manager in Wellington for the Union Steam Ship Company, returned to Wellington by last evening's express. Mr. N. T. Lambourne, the newly, appointed Director of Education, is expected to make his first official visit to Auckland next week. Sir Jarnes Parr, Leader of the Legis. lative Council, visited Massev Agricultural College on Monday and addressed the Palmerston North Rotary Club. Paymaster Lieutenant-Commander H, P. Chapman, whose term of service on H.M.S. Philomel has expired, will leave for England by the Ruahine to-day. Mr. D. Ardell, of the Department of Internal Affairs, arrived from Wellington yesterday to undertake arrangement's for the welcome to the French naval sloop Savorgnan dcvßrazza. He is at the Grand HoteJ.

Mr. W. B. Darlow was appointed representative of the Auckland Harbour Board on the council of the Auckland Chamber cf Commerce at a meeting of the board yesterday. He will replace Mr. T. B. Clay, who is now chairman of the board. Captain .T. Flynn, who relinquished command of the steamer Waikawa at Sydney when he retired froin the service of the Union Steam Ship Company, arrived in Wellington yesterday by the Marama from Sydney. Captain Flynn'g home is in Auckland. Mr. H. Carr, Judge of the Native Land Court, has been appointed to the charge of the Waiariki native land district, which has its headquarters at Rotorua, in conjunction with the Taw rawliiti district, with headquarters at Gisborne. The change is due to the retirement of Mr. A. G. Holland, who has been.for many years in charge of the Waiariki district. Dr. L. H. Briggs, who was recently appointed lecturer in organic chemistry at the Auckland University College, arrived at Wellington by the Maknra on Monday. Dr. Briggs, who is an old boy of the Auckland Grammar School and a graduate of the Auckland University College, has been doing post-graduate work for the past two and a-half years at Oxford, wherfe he obtained the d&gree of doctor of science.
