SYDNEY, May 26 All the talk in Sydney this week Has been of Closing Time's defeat in tho Doomben Newmarket in Brisbane last Saturday. Closing "imo" was solidly supported, but in a bumping finish was narrowly beaten by tho bush mystery horse Wollun. who had' started onjy twice before. , . Closing Time Was in front early, but over the final furlong was joined by Woilun. Wolluri s rider, tho Sydney apprentice H. Hayes, lost an iron in tho Bet-to and thereby lost control of his mount, who lay on Closing Time to the finish. In Queensland inquiries, also all meetings of the stewards, are open to tho pvesn. Mr. A. P. Wilson, Into chief stipendiary ale ward in New Zealand, was in charge of the meeting at Doomben s opening day. Hayes, rider of Wollun, when cross-examined by ,T. T. Jamieson, owner-trainer of Closing Time, admitted that his mount had interfered with Jamieson's horse, and, in reply to a further question,, made tho ptatement that if he had straightened up Wollun the latter would have lost two or three, lengths. As it was, he defeated Closing Timo by much less than a'length. Jamiesoii asked no fur-' tlier questions, believing his case adequately proved. • . '

i Mr. "Wilson, then called tho judge, who >aid that, in his opinion, the result was not affected by any interference. To the amazement of all experienced racegoers, the protest was dismissed by Mr. Wilson and ilia colleagues,.
