HOURS OF WORK
gj rj —All that "Moro Leisure" now requires to complete his equipment is a soap-box. Consider tho gay insouciance which characterised his first letter when ho announced that tho fiat had gone forth for moro play and less work and all that Vas necessary was to put precept into practice. Compare that with the lugubrious tone of his latest production, wherein ho suggests starvation as the inevitable consequence of paying interest on our national debts. Anyhow, surely bread is a better remedy for starvation than any game. When I suggested that shorter hours of work was a world question and not one that New Zealand should initiate, "More Leisure'" pooh-poohed such faint-heartedness, but perhaps he has since read a cablegram to the effect that tho Australian Government has instructed its delegate to tho World Economic Conference that the 40-hour week cannot bo adopted in Australia unless other countries fall into lino. Will "More Leisure," in face of that, still maintain that New Zealand should, regardless of what other countries do, adopt his slogan. "More play and less work." Houo. '
