LINDRUM WINS TITLE DEFEAT OF J. DAVIS (Received May 28, 6.35 p.m.) LONDON, May 27 The final of the English professional billiards championship resulted in a win for Walter Lindrum (Australia), who defeated the holder, J. Davis (England). The scores at the conclusion of the match, were: —Lindrum, 21,815, including breaks of 602, 302 and 773; Davis, 21,121, including breaks of 313 (full) and 483 (unfinished). Both contestants showed signs of nervousness yesterday and missed easy shots. The lead changed several times during the day's play. Lindrum was warmly acclaimed at the end of the match. This is tho first time the professional honours have left England. The new baulk lino rule alfected Lindrum more than any other player, seriously checking his nursery cannon play. All the critics agreo that Davis and Newman have appreciably improved through their associatiipn with Lindrum, who has brought British billiards to a higher level than ever. The chairman of the Billiards Council, Mr. Bissett, in presenting tho cup and a cheque for £2OO to Lindrum, said the greatest player of all time was taking the billiards "ashes" to Australia. Clark McConachy (New Zealand) presented Lindrum with an inscribed gold cue place in memory of his victory. Davis paid a tribute to Lindrum as a worthy champion.
