WOMEN'S INSTITUTES
Aratoro institute held a large gathering, including visitors from Mangapehi and Mangaokewa, two newlyformed institutes. The competition was something suitable for the show. Bombay celebrated the second birthday, having a gathering of about 250 people. Women's organisations in the neighbourhood wero represented. The Government poultry instructor, who attended the monthly meeting, gave an interesting lecture. Coroglen acted "Broken Idylls," which attractod many visitors. The competition was "Telegrams." Coromandel discussed the conference agenda, and carried various amendments to the resolutions. Miss Basley gave a most interesting travel talk. Knitted squares were brought in to bo sewn together for a quilt. / Greenhithe. Miss Gardner used Greenhitho clay when demonstrating first stops in pottery. Her lecturo and recitation of two beautiful poems on the subject wero much appreciated. Articles for the thrift table competition were judged, and the Dominion conference agenda was discussed. EdgecumLo discussed remits for the Dominion conference and chose Mrs. French as delegate. A talk was given upon the leper island at Fiji. Hukatere. —In a report on three meetings it was stated that the husband of one of the members had made a fine bookcase for the women's institute library. Four new members had recently been enrolled, and the president, Mrs. Bourne, had demonstrated sugar-bag mats and humpties. Horotiu held a delightful social afternoon for the pioneers of the district. Mrs. Washer ; senr., of Epsom, related very interesting reminiscences of 1871, and Mrs. Fuller, of Ngaruawaliia, of 1887. Others present were Miss E. Washer and Mesdames Duxfield, Green and Henderson. Husbands' evening proved a great success. The first birthday will be celebrated on Juno 10. Katikati. —Several new members were welcomed by the president at the institute's monthly meeting. Following discussion of business matters, an interesting programme was given, including a roll-call on dressmaking hints, a competition for scones and a playreading given by Miss Nancy and Miss Nello Alloy. Hostesses wero Mrs. Palmer, Mrs. Poole, Mrs. Price and Mrs. Keith Putt. Tuakau had a large attendance at the fourth birthday celebration. Visitors from other institutes and from women's divisions attended. Tlio plays, "Contradiction" and "The Hostess' Husband" were given.
