DISFIGURING WIRES
COMMENT IN CHRISTCHURCH UNSIGHTLY HIGH FENCES [BT TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATIONI CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday "With every street a maze of electric! light and telephone wires, Christchurch from the air must look like a gigantiaf fowlrun," said a member at a meeting of the Suburban Beautifying Associa-t tion. "Each house is tied to a pole, either by 'telephone wires or for lighting current, and across the streets arei tram wires and strainers. Another disfiguring feature ip. our streets is the presence of 6ft. fences. As well as being unsightly, they are a danger to thej occupier. "All recent burglaries," he added."have been committed behind high fences. No one with an open, low fence has suffered. Town planning commit-* tees should not allpw unsightly fences.''
