PAST SEASON AT CARLTON SATISFACTORY PROGRESS Tilo report presented at, the annual meeting of the Carlton Bowling Club on Wednesday stated the club had mado satisfactory progress during tho past season and was in a strong position, with a record membership. Tho balance-sheet showed a credit balance. '1 he report stated the death of the president, Air. James Clarkson, was deeply deplored, not only by bowlers of his own club, but also by bowlers generally. Carlton had been most successful in matches held during the season. G. C. Gladding, J. Pascoe, W. J. Trustcott and H. Jenkin being runners-up in tho champion fours of the Dominion tournament held in Wellington. In Auckland Centre competitions, T. Sampson, J. Bird, J. Torrance and W. A. Lancaster won the champion fours and J. C. Duncan and G. H. Carter tho champion pairs, while .T. C. Duncan was runner-up in the open singles competition at the Auckland Centre Easter tournament. H. Grocott, J. P. Mason, H. . C. Clarke and G. H. Carter won tho Easier fours and G. Duncan, W. Brownlee, V. A. Little and H. V. Johnston the junior fours. In club competitions the results were as follows:—Senior championship, J. C. Duncan; runner-up, R. Higgott; junior championship. V. A. Little; runner-up, S. H. Morris; handicap pairs, R. A. A match between Hamilton and Carlton for the Thomson Shield was won by the Carlton Club. It was decided to enter for the Auckland Centre's pennant competition for the coming season and to arrange for the usual inter-club games.

The following officers were elected President, Mr. G. G. Pollard; vice-presidents, Messrs. W. Coltman, R. Wishart; hon. secretary, Mr. W. E. Arcy; hon. treasurer. Mr. A. B. It was announced that the club's two winter greens were now open for play and visiting teams and individual members would bo welcomed from other clubs.

WESTERN SUBURBS CHAMPION The final was played in the champion of champions contest of the Western Suburbs Bowling Association, the group of clubs comprising Henderson, Glen Eden, New Lynn, Avondalc and Hallyburton-Johnstone. The competitors were tho champions and the runners-up in these five clubs and the first six rounds were played on April 8 on the Hallyburton-.Tohnstono green. The twolife system reduced these . ten players to two, F. Dyson, runner-up in (he championship of the local club, who defeated G. Porritt, the Avondale champion, in the sixth round, the bye going to R. S. Higginbotham, the Henderson champion. When they met on Wednesday afternoon Higginbotham defeated Dyson by 23 to 11, thus winning the charnpior} of champions of the Suburban Association for the second year in succession. He also won the champion of champions of the Auckland Centre, after n great recovery in the final against Bcv. W. P. Rankin (New Lynn).

INTER-CLUB CONTEST An inter-club match played on the Remneri green between teams representing the Auckland und Remuera Bowling Clubs resulted as follows. Auckland names being mentioned first:—Williams, Waters, - Dicketts. Barker, 17, v. Vincent, Ormiston, Allen, Sanderson, IP. MOUNT ALBERT TOURNEY lA pairs tournament was held by the Mount Albert, Bowling Club during the week. Livingstone (Onehunga) and Bawson (Kt. Ileliers) tied with five wins each. In the play-off Livingstone won by two points. A further pairs tournament will take place on Wednesday. CLAUDELANDS CLUB [from our own corrf.spondf.nt] HAMILTON, Thursday There was a good attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Claudeiands Bowling Club last evening. Mr. H. M. Baker presided. In his report the president said the membership had dropped during the year from 82 to 71 and the revenue had been affected to the extent of £3l. Considerable economies had been effected in the club's finances. There had been an actual profit on the year's working of £ll, but, with depreciation allowed for, there was a nominal loss of £33.
