TAURANGA ACCLIMATISATION LIBERATION OF PHEASANTS [by TELEGRAPH —OWN" correspondent] TATXIIANGA, Monday The annual report of the Tauranca Acclimatisation Society states that during the year 303 pheasants were liberated, compared with 220 last year. During the last five years, 1387 pheasants have been liberated. The number of game licences issued last year was 240. Pukeko are increasing and complaints have been received from maize-growers of damage to crops. Some good catches of trout have been secured in the Wairoa River and its tributaries. The Minden Stream and the dam at McLaren's Falls are reserved for fly fishing. A total of 25,000 rainbow trout fry was liberated in Tauranga streams and 50,000 eyed ova were placed in streams in the Te Puke district. The ova was brown trout ova from Southland and the experiment appears to have been a success, as hundreds of fry have been observed in streams where the ova was placed.
