WEATHER MAINLY FINE SOME RAIN LIKELY ) The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—Barometers remain fairly high over and to the east of the North Island. A shallow depression . covers the South Island to-day, while a deep one lina formed over south-east Australia. Indications are for variable winds at first in tho South Island; otherwise northerlies prevailing, moderate to strong generally, but of gale force in places. Seas rough about Cook Strait; elsewhere moderate; hater rising on the west coast. Eastern Tasman Sea: Freshening north winds; moderate but rising seas. Weather mainly fair to fine in eastern districts; elsewhere cloudy and overcast, with rain at times; later some heavy falls 011 tho west coast of the South Island. Temperatures mild. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland.—The weather was cloudy and unsettled yesterday, and a light breeze was blowing from the north.
