STEP FOR INDEPENDENCE NEW SOUTH WALES DECISION (Received May 1, 10.35 p.m.) SYDNEY. May 1 The Premier of New South Wales, Mr. B. S. Stevens, announced to-day that the Government intends to remove the Commissioner of Police from the sphere of political influence. Legislation is being prepared to prevent the commissioner's removal from office without the approval of both the State Houses of Parliament.
