NEW PLYMOUTH TRACK

CEREAL AND LADY QUEX

[from our own correspondent] NEW PLYMOUTH, Saturday All the galloping at New Plymouth this morning took place on the outside of the course proper, with the flags weil out. The going was holding. All the horses with engagements at Hawera on "Wednesday were worked and acquitted themselves well. Arvada and Royal Bengal were finishing on strongly at the conclusion of five furi or W s 1.6 4-5. Arvada looks bright and T- e , , . her win at Marton. Royal Bengal nil work in good style. t two-year-old General Quex, by Quex, from Shrill, was exercised in ;he middle of the course. He is a fine-look-ing colt, with plenty of size. Alerry "Way was going easily alongside ■» iin S i a * enc l B i x furlongs in the last five taking 1.8 1-5. Merry Way worked in impressive fashion and is a inuch-improved filly. Glowlight moves better than she has for the last few mornings. . Cereal jumped off three or four lengths m ° t Lad 7 Quex at the six-furlongs post, but the mare was only a length away after going a furlong, and they were practically on -,erms at the three furlongs. They came into the straight together, but over the last 50 yards Cereal went away to beat Lady Quex by two lengths. Tho six furlongs were run in a tick under 1.20 and the last five in I.G 4-5. The effort in making up the early leeway undoubtedly told its i-ale on Lady Quex, but Cereal beat her very decisively, and, considering that this was hi 3 first really serious try-out since racing at Stratford, it was an attractive showing.
