FRIENDLY SOCIETIES

LODGES IN COUNTRY INSTALLATION OF OFFICERS The Tolaga Bay Lodge, 1.0.0. F., had a very large gathering of members and visitors at.its meeting last week. Official visits were received from the D.D.G.M., Bro. H. Kennedy, Bro. Robb, P.G.M., Bro. E. Sommerville, installing officer, and a party of past grands. Visitors from Star of Gisborne, Mangapapa and Tokomaru helped to swell the numbers. The chief ceremony, that of installing the officers, was ably carried out by Bro. Sommerville, P.G., and his team of P.G's. The new officers in charge of the lodge's affairs are:— N.G., Bro. J. Ancell; V.G., Bro. F. Lawrence; recording secretary, Bro. F. Holmes; permanent secretary, Bro. H. Fraser; treasurer, Bro. H. Littleworth; R.S.N.G., Bro.. C. Lawrence; L.S.N.G., Bro. Moore; R.S.S., Bro. I. McCreedy; L.S.S., Bro. A. Morshead; R.S.V.G., Bro. H. Farrell; L.S.V.G., Bro. N. Olson; 1.G., Bro. A. Dever; 0.G., Bro. H. Stretch. At tho conclusion of the business an adjournment was made to the supper room, where at intervals musical items and the usual fraternal addresses were given.

The Enterprise Lodge, 1.0. G.T., had a fair attendance on Thursday evening, P.C.T. Bro. Ardern presiding. Visitors from Pride of Roskill Lodge were welcomed. The chief business of the evening was the initiation of a new member and the election of officers for another term. Sister Jameson will again occupy the chief templar's chair and Sister Cant the vice-tempar's. Bro. Carlaw will be secretary and superintendent of educational work. Sister, Henricksen was elected marshal; Sister M.' Webb, financial secretary; Sister Atkinson, chaplain; Sister E. Pace, guard; Sister Inglesby, deputy marshal; Sister Ardern, treasurer; Sister S. Webb, sentinel; Bro. G. Hewitt, assistant secretary; Sister Hewett, registrar; Sisters Henricksen and Wentworth, pianistes; and Bro. reporter and guide agent. The district officers havo been invited to attend the next meeting to conchict the installation ceremony. It has just become known that the juvenile temple of this lodge has won tho membership trophy in competition against the whole of New Zealand. As the seniors were also successful,, both trophies will be in the Onehunga lodge room.

The Star of Melrose Lodge No. 2, 1.0.0. F., had a large gathering at its last meeting when the installation of officers for the new term was conducted. Bro. I. Way, N.G., presided over the opening ceremonies and welcomed the visitors, who included Bro. J. Cown, P.G., of Star of Napier; Bro. Blanchard, Pioneer No. 1; Bro. F. Hillborn, P.G.; and members of Star of Eden Lodge. The D.D.G. marshal, Bro. G. Arnott, then announced the arrival of Bro. C. A. Johnson and his suite of officers, who were present to conduct the installation ceremony. The officers were received with due honours and Bro. Johnson took charge of the proceedings. Bro. I. Way was first installed as immediate past noble grand, and then Bro. D. Cooper, P.G.M., was conducted to the noble grand's position. Other officers receiving installation and appointment were: —V.G., Bro. Edwards; recording secretary, Bro. E. Blake; financial secretary, Bro. J. Santo; treasurer, Bro. F. Chambers; R.S.N.G., Bro. H. Latimer; L.S.N.G., Bro. Cusworth; warden, Bro. R. Pritchard; conductor, Bro. Mahood; R.S.V.G., Bro. E. Burton; L.S.V.G., Bro. Gulley; chaplain, Bro. Christian; R.E.S., Bro. Cleal; L.S.S., Bro. O'Carroll: 1.G., Bro. Jeans; 0.G., Bro. E. CraDb.

The Pride of Roskill Lodge, 1.0. G.T., held an enjoyable social evening on Monday of last week, when an invitation was extended to sister lodges r.nd the general public to attend. Games, competitions and items were the order of the evening. Bro. Critchley (Penrose), with his banjo-mando-line solos, was much enjoyed, also Bro. Tarlton (Penrose), with readings. Bro. Peacock in his usual breezy fashion thanked the visitors for their attendance and help.

The Loyal Katikati Lodge, M.U., gave a most successful evening to neighbouring lodges and friends in the Public, Hall, Katikati, at the conclusion of the last lodge meeting. A large number of visitors were in attendance and spent a very happy _ time. Dancing and cards were the chief attractions. During the supper interval, P.G. Bro. Tonkin, of Tauranga, the newly-appointed group officer, gave a short address on the advantage of belonging to a friendly society. The honours of the order were bestowed on members from Loyal Tauranga, Waihi and Te Kuiti Lodges.

The Devon port Lodge, U.A.0.D., had a good meeting last Wednesday, the A.D., Pro. Fullerton, presiding. The business was of a light nature and was quickly dealt with. • The mem-? hers then cleared the hall and settled down to bowls, some more progress being made in the competition for P.A. Bro. Hewitt's trophy.

The Oddfellows' Lodge in the northerly district of Kaitaia is still making progress, in spite of the unfavourable times. At the last meeting a visit was received from the D.D.G.M., Bro. Foster, and the D.D.G. marshal, Bro. G. Rukin. This was the evening set aside for tlie installation of officers for the new term and the two officers mentioned carried out the ceremony in a very able manner. Bro. L. Gallagher is now noble grand, Bro. R. Schischka vice-grand, Bro. L. Peace treasurer, and Bro. E. Mayhill secretary.

The Light of Penrose Lodge, 1.0. G.T., held its election of officers at the last business meeting. Ballots were required for most of the positions. The new officers will be: —C.T., Bro. Tarlton; V.T., Bro. Jameson; secretary, Bro. R. Westbrooke; F. secretary, Sister T. Allison; treasurer, Sister Tarlton; marshal, Sister M. Westbrooke; D. marshal, Bro. C. Anderson; chaplain, '{sister M. Gillingham; association secretary, Bro. Nicholson; sentinel, Sister Critchley; guard, Sister T. Allison; pianiste, Sister Rogers; registrar, -Sister Anderson; reporter, Bro. Critchley.

The Loyal Ngatea Lodge, Manchester Unity, had a fair attendance at its last meeting, over which the N.G., Sister I). Haywood, presided. Nominations were called for the officers for tho new term and some keen contests are anticipated. Three nominations have been received for tho N.G. chair, three for the V.G. and six for elec. secretary. Sister J. Baxter was appointed delegate to the district 500 committee. At the close of the business an enjoyable time was spent with dancing and cards.
