OBITUARY

MR. W. H. HASLETT The death occurred yesterday of Mr. William Henry Haslett, of View Road. Mount Eden, at the age of 53 years. Mr. Haslett was well-known in Auckland, having been in business as a chemist in Eden Terrace for about 25 years. He was born in Auckland and studied for his profession in this city. His father, the late Mr. W. H. Haslett, was a very well-known resident of Auckland in the early days. Mr. Haslett was a member of the Auckland Racing Club and the Auckland Trotting Club, and formerly was a member of the Rocky Nook Bowline Club, but in recent years ho had not engaged very actively in sport for reasons of health. Ho was a keen Freemason. Ho is survived by his wife, four sons and ono daughter. MRS. C. R. SWINBANKS [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] WIIANGAKEI, Monday Tho death has occurred of Mrs. Catherine Richardson Swinbanks, of Hikurangi, at tho age of 85- years. She was born in Lincolnshire, and received her education at a private school in Hull, Yorkshire. She was a granddaughter of Commander Henry Bennett, R.N., who was an intimate friend of tho late Sir John Franklin, the explorer. As a girl of 15 years she accompanied the Albertland settlers to New Zealand in the ship Portland, the journey being accomplished in the record time of 80 days. In 1883 she married Mr. John Swinbanks, a mine manager at Kawakawa, who died 20 years ago. Mrs. Swinbanks was a staunch supporter of the Anglican Church and a prominent member of the Loyal Ngatoa Rebekah Lodge of Hikurangi. She is survived by one son, Mr. J. Swinbanks, of Kamo, and one daughter, Mrs. A. Doel, of Tikipunga. There are five grandchildren. MR. HORACE WILSON [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] PALMEKSTON NORTH, Monday Tho death has occurred at Bulls, of Mr. Horace Wilson, who was well known in tho llangitikei district. For many years ho resided at Fordell and after seeing service in the Great War ho sottled at Bulls, where his home. Rotowhero, was a favourite meoting place for sportsmen, particularly on May 1, the opening day of the duck shooting season. Ho is survived by his widow, who is a sister of Sir Thomas Wilford, two sons, and one daughter.
