DR. PINFOLD'S CANDIDATURE [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON", Monday An assurance that rates would be reduced next year was given by the Mayor, Dr. F. D. Pinfold, in the course of an address to ratepayers at the Frankton Town Hall this evening. Dr. Pinfold said that this reduction would be effected, whoever might be returned as Mayor, as a resu.lt of careful administration in the past two years, and the saving caused by the compulsory reduction in interest rates. Speeches in support of Dr. Pinfold's candidature were made by several members of the Borough Council. After questions had been answered, the Mayor was accorded a vote of thanks. ADMINISTRATION CRITICISED CANDIDATE'S ATTACK Public affairs in Auckland were reviewed at a meeting jn the Town Hall concert chamber last evening for over three hours by Mr. J. R. Lundon, who is standing as an independent candidate for the City Council, the Hospital Board and the Harbour Board. Mr. E. O. S. Boardman presided and there was a large attendance. Mr. Lundon, who described himself as " the only unticketed, unhypothecated, independent candidate," dealt at much length with the Grey Lynn workers' dwellings, and claimed, when a councillor, to have championed the cause of their occupants. Ho also criticised tho zoo undertaking, the negotiations for granting now leases of the City Markets, and the level of City Council salaries. He declared that if elected he would endeavour to have all salaries above £SOO reduced to that figure. Although attacking the council's financial methods, he commended the Mayor, Mr. G. W.
