THE HEAVY-WEIGHT TITLE NICOL DEFEATS CAMPBELL [by TELEGRAM —Pit ESS association! INVERCAEGILL, Monday The heavy-\leight professional boxing championship of New Zealand changed hands to-night, when Bay Nicol (Oliai), 12st. 51b., defeated Alan Campbell (Timaru), 12st. 01b., on points in a contest of 15 rounds, which also carried a purse of £l5O. The bout was staged in the Civic Theatre, which was crowded. The contest was marred by a good deal of clinching and wrestling, and the referee was kept busy separating the men. In the opening rounds Nicol took a slight lead, but from the sixth round on Campbell appeared to more advantage. His punching was cleaner and ho made Nicol miss frequently. Nicol was the aggressor, but found his opponent .very elusive. In the last round there was plenty of action, but not a great deal of clean hitting. Nicol won that round. Tho decision in favour of Nicol was particularly well received. Billy Sullivan (Hastings) has challenged the winner.
