DAMAGE BY WHIRLWIND
TARANAKI FARMS SWEPT COWSHED DEMOLISHED NARROW PATH OF DEBRIS [BY TELECKAI'H —OWN cohiiespondent] NEW PLYMOUTH, Monday Accompanied by heavy rain, a whirlwind swept across farms on the coast just south of New Plymouth to-day. The whirlwind came from the sea. Mr. E. J. Sanger's farm on the main south road, opposite the Royal Oak dairy factory, received the full force of the wind, which did not last for long. It came from a northerly direction and travelled in a narrow path, Mr. Sanger's property being the only ono seriously affected. Most of the cowshed was swept away, pieces of corrugated iron being whisked into the air and carried for nearly a quarter of a mile. Mr. Sanger's son, who was in the shed at tho time, was forced to lie on tho ground to avoid tho whirling debris. A tree in tho path of the wind was stripped bare of its foliage and smaller branches wero broken off. A wireless mast near tho houso was snapped oil: and tho upper part was forced through a window, tho end projecting somo distance into tho room.
