NORTHCOTE INTERESTS
USE OF FOOTBALL GROUND The Mayor of Northcote, Mr. R. Martin, who has been returned unopposed for a further term, presided last evening over the final meeting of the Borough Council prior to the municipal elections. He was congratulated by the deputy-mayor, Mr. A. Facer, on behalf of the members. Advice was received that the Takapuna Borough Council was strongly opposed to the proposal to vest the lakeside property and pumping plants of Devonport, Northcote and Birkenhead in the North Shore Water Board. The Birkenhead and Northcote Ramblers' League Football Club requested that the municipal football ground should be allocated to the two codes on alternate Saturdays, and stated the club had entered five teams in the competitions.. The Northcote and Birkenhead Rugby Union Football Club wrote that seven teams would be playing, and requested prompt allocation of the football ground. It was decided to allocate the ground equally between the two codes. The Main Highways Board advised that exemption from the sales tax embraced any form of broken stone of irregular sliape, such as road metal or screenings, but excluded tarred stone or gravel.
