BACK IN THE FASHION
DEMAND IN BRITAIN
Si: uff-taking lias come back to popularity in Britain. In West 3i»nd theatres in London where smoking is not permitted, taking snuff has become the new craze, and there are heavy demands for it from all parts of the country. One firm in Sheffield is working overtime to copo with the sudden demand. " I think the increase in snuff-taking is largely duo to the fact that the medical profession has suggested it is. useful
in warding oil' influenza and in casing catarrh," a firm of snulf manufacturers, London, said recently. " We are now making more than double last year's quantity, and practically all our sales are in London. In the North of England and in Scotland the increase in the habit is especially marked. One of the most important simtf-making firms in the country are also making in Newcastle more than double the amount of snuff they were manufacturing a year ago. •" The increase really started with the influenza epidemic," an official said. " Our heaviest demands are from Lancashire, Yorkshire and the industrial , areas of Southern Scotland.
