WAIPOUA FOREST
ECONOMIES IN CONTROL SILVICULTURIST TO RETIRE [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] DARGAVILLE, Friday Included in tho recommendations made by the Economy Committee last year was tho curtailment of research and other work in connection with the Waipoua Forest. Certain economies were given effect to soon after the report was made and the control of tho forest has been carried out with a minimum of expense. News has now been received that further reductions in costs are to bo made. These include dispensing with the services of Mr. C. Arnold Hansson, silviculturist, who has been in charge of the Waipoua Eorest for a number of years. His retirement will take place 011 June 30. Mr. Hansson has made an exhaustive study of silviculture in Sweden, his homeland, and other parts of tho world. He has been in the employ of tho New Zealand Government for 13 years and is well known to visitors to tho forest for his unfailing courtesy and interesting descriptions of plant life. TT ... fc>o far as is known Mr. Hansson will continue to reside in New Zealand, but will visit Honolulu in August to address a forestry conference there.
