WOMEN WALKERS

SYDNEY CHALLENGE RACE Mrs. 0. Baxter, a 54-year-old competitor, was fourth in a women's walking race on April S from Liverpool to Sydney, which was organised as the result of a challenge by Miss Esther James, of New Zealand. The race wasi won by Miss Edna Sayers, of Earlwood, iii 4 hours 2 minutes. 1 , There were 13 starters. Miss James, after leading from the start, collapsed at Chullora, but resumed later. She withdrew at Ashfield, suffering from a strained ankle. Mrs. M. Loveridgo (Darlington) was secondhand Miss P. "Williams (Paddington) third.
