COLD, SQUALLY WEATHER SHOWERS IN MOST AREAS The Government meteorologist re« ported last evening as follows:—A deep westerly depression has been crossing the Dominion to-day. An extensive and intense anti-cyclone now covers Australia, with the centre near Adelaide. Indications are for strong north-west-erly 'winds to gales north of Westport and Kaikoura; elsewhere southerly, and southerlies becoming general by to. morrow morning. Seas rough generally. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong southerly winds; rough to heavy seas. Weather: Cold, changeablo and squally, with showers in most districts and snow on some of the ranges of the South Island; improving soon, however, in western districts. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland—Fine weather and a light north-west wind which prevailed yester. day were followed by a heavy squall and shower early in the evening. Afterwards the wind was light westerly and the sky was overcast and threatening. After falling to 29.90 in. in the afternoon the barometer rose slightly in the evening. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 29.95 in. Midnight, Tuesday .. .. 39.05 in, Temperature in shade yesterday (to midnight)— Maximum, 69deg.; minimum, 65deg. Wellington.—After a stormy morning, with a high northerly wind and rain squalls, the weather cleared during yesterday afternoon and the remainder of the day was warm and sunny. Christchurch. —Following a gale early yesterday morning, the north-west wind died away and last night the indications wore for a hard frost. The maximum temperature was 64deg. The barometer rose 11 points to ,29.47 in. Dunedin. —The yesterday was unsettled, with occasional showers and sunshine and a fresh breeze from the south-west. The barometer had a falling tendency and registered 29.45 in. early in the evening.
