ESCAPE FROM FIRE
WELLINGTON OUTBREAK SPREAD OF FLAMES CHECKED [BY TELEGRAPH —FRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, 'Wednesday A fire in a storeroom owned by Mr. Hart, fancy goods dealer, in Cuba Street, destroyed the greater part of the contents of one room, and damaged goods in the shop below. The firemen fought the flames and dense smoke for some time. Efforts to stop the fire reaching the floor above proved successful. On this floor a large quantity of Paramount films was stored. A man employed cutting films and a woman cleaner and her child made a hurried escape from the upper storey, running along a balcony to a cabaret next door. FARM HOMESTEAD BURNED PRACTICALLY NOTHING SAVED [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] TAURANGA, Wednesday A homestead of eight rooms, together with the contents, on Mr. L. J. Hopping's farm on Cambridge Boad was destroyed by fire at two o'clock this morning. The fire had a firm hold when discovered and practically nothing was saved. The house was insured with the Alliance Office and the furniture with the Guardian Office. COUNTRY HOUSE BURNED PRACTICALLY NOTHING SAVED [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] WHANGAREI, Wednesday The five-roomed house of Mr. M. I. Glamuzina, of Marua, was destroyed by fire yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Glamuzina was on the verandah when she heard the flames behind her. A number of men employed by the Lands Department on drainago works in the vicinity, noticing tho smoke, rushed to the assistance of Mrs. Glamuzina, but practically nothing could be saved. Mr. Glamuzina was working about four miles away. The house was insured, but the furniture and effects were not covered.
