NEW DARGAVILLE RANGE [BY TEIiEGRATJI —OWN CORKESI'OXDKNT] DARGAVILLE, Wednesday The inaugural shoot of (he newly-formed Dnrfjaville Rifle Club was held at Te Wliarn.u range on Monday, when G7 competitors attended. The range is situated a little over two miles from the town and provides for ranges up to 900 yards and is equipped with every modern device. Tho first shots were fired by tho patron, Mr. P. A. Jones, president, and Dr. C. 11. Crump, the customary bullseyes being registered. Afterwards shooting at 500 yards and 500 yards took place. The chief interest was in the teams match of eight men a side between the Whangarci and Dargaville Clubs. Ten shots were fired at 200 yards and seven at 500 yards, Whangarei being victorious with r>s;j points to 544. Vor Whangarei, W. Slade Clark, 80, and N. C. Shippard. 79, did best, and for Dargaville, J. J 3 . White, 70, Max Dnnn and C. N. "White, G9 each. Most of tho Dargavillo men wero inexperienced and in the circumstances did well against their more, seasoned opponents. Kiflo shooting has been dormant in tho district many years owing to the absence of a range. With the good range now available and strong membership, it is intended to hold sports weekly.
