EASTER BOWLING

ANNUAL AUCKLAND TOURNEY EXECUTIVE FOURS TO MACKY COUNTRY. TEAM SUCCESSFUL The Auckland Bowling Centre's Easter tournament, comprising the Easter fours, junior fours, first-year players' fours and executive fours, made further progress yesterday, when inter-spction play was begun on the Carlton green. Finality was reached in only two of these events, the third round of the Easter fours and final of the junior fours not being persevered with owing to the late hour of conclusion 'of the second round games. The executive fours were won by Dr. K. S. Macky's Auckland rink, while the event for first-year players wan won by a Kaukapakupa rink skipped by Earle. The fine weather wln-h prevailed all j through the tournament held lip well and I the greens were iu fair order. A strong j breeze, which was rather gusty at times, hud an upsetting effect on tho players. The opening round games wore responsible for two surprises. Livingstone's heavy downfall, at tho hands of Carter's Carlton rink was a distinct surprise. The strong Onehunga combination was 111 trouble early and never had a chance with the opjiosition. In contrast to Carter's win was the deieat of his club-mates, Lancaster's team, wnicli was rather tuuly deleated by helly, baimoral. The lust-named very nearly survived the day's play, buing put out only after an extra head with ixosking's Pukekohc team, Hosiwns was lying one down and one bowl lo play, but an excellent drive gave linn the necessary point, to win. Elliott, Carlton, skipping 111 pr.ice of Ball,' Who is indisposed, had no trouble in defeating -ltobert», Balmoral. Buckley, Grey Lyiin', overhauled Russell, St. Hellers, in tiie lust-part.of tho game. Two Close Games Two close games resulted in tho second round of the .busier fours. Apart from that bctwu.cn .Kelly mid tile ii<iliottBuckley game was very -close, the score being 14-all with one head to go. In essaying a dead head on 'the last end, Buckley removed- his own second shot, and he went down by five. There were never more than two or three jioints separating the teams. The Carlton lead, Taylor, showed the way to tho jack in unerring style and his play was a big factor in his team's success. In spite of the fact that he was playing in a pofitton somewhat new to him, Elliott drew splendidly, besides sending down an occasional fast one with success when the I occasion demanded. Buckley's sure drive was often in evidence during the game. Carter's team was too good in front for Walker. Both Grocott and Mason bowled really well. The Auckland team kept the Carlton inenj confined to singles for the first 14 heads, but thereafter Carlton scored nine points on three successive heads. De Launay soon established a commanding lead in his game with Clarke. His team was too powerful all round for the West End players. # Sampson, Waitemata, who won all his section games in the junior fours, met his first defeat when the Carlton team, skipped by Johnston, was encountered in the semifinal. Johnston's team played fine bowls end on the day's play was superior to the Waitemata combination. The other semi-final between Ellisdon and Burrows saw Ellisdon quickly in the lead, and he was never in any danger of defeat. Country Team's Success The diminutive Kaukapakapa skip, Earle, and his team played very good bowls to beat Credin's Edendale team. The country team was three up on the fifteenth head and, monopolising the scoring from then on, ran out winners by 2:2 to 12. The final game in the executive fours between Macky and I'earce was keenly contested,' although it did not produce good bowling. The windy conditions appeared to trouble the players to a great extent. Pearce was in the lead up to (he fourteenth head when Macky drew alongside. Auckland scored a three and two on the seventeenth and eighteenth heads, making the advantage five points with three heads to play. Pearce scored a couple and two singles on these heads and went down by one point, the score being 13-18. Williams, the Kooky Xook number two, was most successful with drives. | Following are the results:— EASTER FOURS First Hound.—:Hardie Neil, "Wilson, Woolley. Walker (Auckland), 27. v. This, he said, had given a great deal of enjoyment over the holiday period to many moderate players who would .not otherwise get a game.
