CITY MAYORAL ELECTION

g; rj it must be a disappointment to many that, having decided to contest the position of Mayor at the approaching election, the Labour Party has not nominated a-more suitable candidate for the position. Mr. H. G. R. Mason, M.P., already holds two responsible paid'public positions, the faithful discharge of which necessitates the devotion of many hours weekly. Seeing the time already given to his work as a member of the Auckland Transport Board, how can Mr. Mason faithfully carry out the Mayoral duties in addition if elected? When 0110 considers tho distance between Auckland and, Wellington, the stupidity of tho L.R.O. is more apparent. Surely a more suitable candidate, with necessary time to spare, could easily have been selected. Failing that, why seek a change? Most electors will agree that it is a bad policy to place any man in more than one paid position. Anyone standing for Mayor of Auckland will never get my vote unless for one term at least he has served as councillor. It is unfair to Mr. Mason, M.P-, also his constituents, to ask him to attempt tho impossible. H. Birch Clark.
