GOOD FAMILY RECORD
CANTERBURY BROTHERS TOTAL OF OVER 300 YEARS A total of over 300 years of varied experience in pioneering fanning and industrial life, in New Zealand is combined in the five sons of the late Mr. William Dcrisley Wood, a Canterbury pilgrim. The five brothers gathered in Christ church last week when the eldest. Mr. Henry Wood, was about to leave for England. They constitute one of the best-known families in the Dominion. It was in 1850 that Mr. W. D. Wood arrived at Lyttelton from England as a passenger on the Randolph, one of the first four ships, and the foundation of the big milling business subsequently controlled by several of the brothers was laid in a windmill which the pioneer settler set lip in what was then called Windmill I?oad, Christchurch. Three of the brothers, Messrs. Henry, Derisley and Peter Wood, formed the well-known firm of Wood Brothers. At first the two other brothers, Messrs. Charles and Walcot Wood, were partners in a farming venture at Kaikoura, but later Mr. Walcot Wood returned to Christchurch and went into business on his own account.
