STRANGE BOXING SCENE

REFEREE AND THE COUNT OUTPACES THE TIMEKEEPER LONDON, April 1C The Prince of Wales was among the spectators in the Albert Hall who witnessed one of the strangest events in the history of boxing. Don McCorkindale (South Africa) was boxing Larry Gains (Canada) in a 10round match that did not involve Gains' Empire title, when McCorkindale delivered a blow to the jaw in the last round that felled Gains, who, however, rolled over at the count of three. Gains rested on one knee and prepared to rise. The timekeeper counted to seven and the referee, Mr. C. Douglas, counted with him simultaneously to nine. The latter then shouted "out," in spite of the fact that Gains was rising and that the timekeeper had not finished his count. The incident is causing the newspapers to demand that the Board of Control should define accurately the duties of timekeeper and referee.
