Aka Aka had a very successful meetReed loom basketry was demonstrated by Mrs. Moffatt, and Mrs. Anderson explained copper work. Names of trees formed the subject of the competition. A silver mug was presented to Baby Muir, the first institute baby. A ride's Bay held its meeting on Mrs. Henry's verandah, overlooking a beautiful garden. Mrs. Webster was elected president, Mrs. Percy secretary ami treasurer. The making of children s warm slippers was demonstrated. Hikutaia's roll call, "What Our Husbands think of the Institute, caused much merriment. Competition was a nut loaf. One now member was enrolled. A bring-and-buy sale fox* federation funds was very successful. The institute babies each received a small gift. Mrs. Leavers, of Wellington, showed the correct method of wiring flowers, and the making of posies and bouquets. The competitions were zinnias and a dress to cost not more than ss. Matangi had for roll call " Uses of Tomatoes." Mrs. Whewell gave a very interesting demonstration of reupliolstering an armchair. A "leaf" competition was held. A letter of appreciation was received from a member who has left for England. Manawahe discussed remits to be dealt with at the council meeting at Opotiki. Officers for the ensuing year wore elected. The competition was for the best plate of sandwiches. Mangapehi is .a now institute organised bv Miss Lewis. Mrs. Buck is president, and Miss Giddy, secretary. At the lirst meeting the roll call "My Favourite Flower and Why?" was followed bv a demonstration of wool mattresses and quilts, by Mrs. Barlow. Morrinsville. —Mrs. Topliam, president, tendering her resignation, Mrs. Starncs will take the position for the remainder of the year. An interesting talk on institute work and an exhibition of toys and articles from waste products was given by Miss Lewis, of Titirangi. Opotiki had a member's evening. The amusing sketch, "Counting the Eggs," was given. The roll call was, "What Our Grandmothers Did Without." The gardening circle competition was zinnias. Mr. H. G. Simpson gave an interesting talk on "The Care of the Mouth." Raglan exhibited a display of marquetry, enamelled pewter and brass; instruction in these arts has been given to members by Mrs. Collier, of Hamilton. Taneatua also discussed and voted upon remits. Mrs. Wylde, of Waimana, gave an interesting address. The competition was a jar of apple-jelly. Tuakau members attended a public meeting, when Mr. A. E. Robinson, of Auckland, lectured on currency reform. Waharoa had a very interesting lecture on "Everyday Accidents" and "Cancer," by Dr. Laurenson, of Matamata. The book competition caused much amusement, while that for best arranged bowl of flowers ' produced some beautiful displays. "What our Husbands think of the Institute" produced some quaint opinions, Waharoa is sending a delegate to the Dominion conference. ' Waikino listened to tho reading of a paper on health hints by Mrs. i. Franklin. It was decided to donate two guineas toward the dental clinic at Waihi. Mrs. Bartlett Rave a demonstration in wreath-making. A bring and buy stall was held and the competitions were shortbread and household cleansers. Whitikahu held a garden party in Mrs. P. H. Clark's grounds. A treasure hunt caused much amusement. Clock irolf, croquet and tennis were played. Three new members were welcomed. Whsikntano appointed delegates to the council meeting, also discussed and voted upon remits. A garden party held for federation funds was a great success. Wbatawhata. —A demonstration and lecture given by Messrs. Marshall, McDouagh and Munro, members of St. John's Aiubulanco Brigade, were very inucli appreciated.
