NOTES ON THE MEETING 1 AUCKLANDERS IN LIMELIGHT [BY TELEGRArH—OWN CORRESPONDENT] , HAWERA, Mondav Auckland horses wero again in the limelight on the second day of the Hawera meeting, lor Kohewah, Worthy Chief. ; Raider, Nell Volo. and Guid Hairst re--1 turned winners. This gave northern horses ten of the sixteen races. Smith headed the list with four winners. Broughton and ' Thomas had three each. The totalisator was hold up after the Kaponga Handicap, while the committee deliberated on the payment of one dividend only with the Raider-Cracker bracket, first and second. Finally it was decided to pay out only on the bracket. With C. Donald behind her Golden Harvest held a good position early in tho Trial Handicap and overhauled Worthy Chief in tho straight to win comfortably. Demand, who tired, was third, well back. Kohewah experienced no difficulty in winning the Ohawe Handicap by seventy yards. Red Eaglo broke up badly at the start and was never dangerous. Hue Coronado trotted well. Red Eagle was purchased before the race by Mr. it. Millen. of Auckland, for 42 guineas. „ , . Except for Lady Zoe. the starters in the Kaponya- Handicap were all Aucklandcrs fl-ucl Smith's bracket, Raider-Cracker, finished first and second.. Worthy Chief's consistency was well rewarded in the Stewards' Handicap, which ho won from end to end at a good price for , a win. but he was favourite on the place I machine.
