JEW BAITING IN GERMANY
Sir, —So they are at it again, the?o Germans, demonstrating to the world all the frightful attributes of their vaunted "kultur." And but recently we handed back to them, to the accompaniment of a sycophantic peroration from a Britisher, the nameplate of tho Emdcn. Well, well; times change and Englishmen forget readily. Tho inhuman persecution of their Jewish countrymen by a race who consider themselves tho most advanced of the earth's peoples must make us pause and reflect as to what would have been our fate had we, as a nation, been brought to our knees and made to suffer tho "iron" yoke of German dominance. Tho obligations imposed by the Treaty of Versailles would have read like a child's pleasant fairytale in comparison. I have had much to do with Germans —enough and to spare to satisfy mo for tho remainder of my days. Individually, I found them obsequious and cringing; collectively, the same individuals proved themselves bombastic bullies, willing and eager to take toll of any lone, hapless Britisher who might be domiciled with them for tho time being. Has the "Blond Beast" shed the hatred of all things British, which was part of his very existence before and after wo took up the cudgels on behalf of Belgium? I will never believe it! To him, "der Tag" has onlv been postponed. We, as a race, will yet rue tho day we halted at his frontiers and gave him peace. Clew Garnet.
