CYCLONIC DISTURBANCE

STOBM AT NEW HEBRIDES [i JtOM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] SUVA, April 8 Heralded by a falling barometer yesterday morning a cyclone struck Vila, New Hebrides, -yesterday and to-day. The wind, which moved from south-east to east-south-east, attained hurricane force and was accompanied by heavy rain. No reports concerning damage have yet been received. The barometer at 8.30 a.m. yesterday stood at 29.656, with a strong breeze. By 3.30 p.m. the glass had fallen to 29.40, the wind increasing to hurricane force. Apparently the blow continued throughout the night, for at 8.30 a.m. to-day the following report was received from Vila: —" Cyclonic disturbance here, barometer 29.14, wind east-south-east, hurricane force."
