RIFLE SHOOTING
TARANAKI CHAMPIONSHIP HIGH STANDARD REACHED [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] . NEW PLYMOUTH, Sunday The Taranaki Rifle Association's -champion belt was won yesterday by F. C. Hogg (New Plymouth), who made two consecutive possibles with 10 shots each at 300 yds and 500 yds, and 48 at 600 yds. There weie nine possibles in the various matches. The teams' match produced magnificent shooting. Wanganui won with 497 out of a possible of 525, a Dominion record for a five-man team over three ranges. The previous record of 494 was made in 1911. E. S. Farley (Wanganui) scored 35 at each range. The conditions were fairly good. There waa a strong but steady left wind. SOUTH ISLAND MEETING SUCCESS OF MASEFIELD [BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION] BLENHEIM, Saturday There were only 41 entries, including three from the North Island, for the South Island rifle shooting championships. Results : Canterbury Match, A grade, 10 shots at 300yds.—£3, Searle (Nelson), 48; £2, Masefield (Marlborough), 48; £1 10s, N. Nanosen (Nelson), 48. R. Fowler (Marlborough) won the B grade match with 47. Westland Match, 10 shots at 500 yds—- . 10a, R. Jordan (Westport), and H. Henderson, each scored 49. P. Neal won the B grade match with 48 Otago Match, 10 shots at 500yds.—£3, Masefield, 50; £2, W. Coleman, 49; P. Nenl won the B grade match with 49. Nelson Match, 10 ehots at GOOyds.—£3, Masefield, 49; £2, Mitchener (Nelson), 47. A. Hammond won the B grade match with 4P. Blenheim Match, 10 shots at GOOyds.—£3. Masefield, 48; £2, L. Paak, 48. F. Silvius won the B grndo match. Masefield won the Midfield aggregate with 244, H. Mcintosh being second with 232. The Murray Cup. for the. best score in the 500 yds matches. Colonel Smith's trophy for the best scores at 300 yds and 500 yds, and the trophy for the 600 yds match, were won by Masefield with scores of 99, 147 and 146.
