WAIHI HOSPITAL BOARD
NO RELIEF PAYMENTS PRIVATE FXJND RAISED [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] "WAIHI, Sunday In the absence of a quorum at what was to hare been the final meeting of the present Waihi Hospital Board on April 11 it was decided at the instigation of the chairman, Mr. T. Jowsey, not to take the responsibility of making sustenance payments in cases of distress or of paying staff salaries or tradespeople's accounts. This meant that unless a special meeting was convened in the interval nothing could be done until the election of a new board on May 3. As it was known that there were several serious cases of distress in the board's district, public-spirited citizens canvassed the town and raised sufficient money to tide the most necessitous cases over the Easter period. Since this money was distributed the chairman of the board has called a special meeting for next Tuesday evening, when it is expected that, even in the absence of a quorum, the matters referred to will be given attention.
