FOLK EDUCATION
LOCAL SOCIETY FORMED An organisation to promote the higher and general education of adults and young people in Xew Zealand along the lines of the Danish Folk Schools was established in Auckland this week. The title adopted for the organisation was the New Zealand People's University Association, and it was resolved that the object should be to establish and maintain residential schools for male and female students of 17 years and upward and to provide generally for the higher and general education of adults. Dr. G. P. .O'Shannessy presided and short addresses were given by Mr. E. J. B. C. Mulle'r and -Air. D. von Sturmer, the conveners of the meeting. , The following officers were elected:Chairman of committees, Mr. D. von Sturmer; hon. secretary, Mr. E. J. B. O. Midler; treasurer (pro. tem.), Miss Olive Foster; auditor, Mr. Nightingale; executive committee, Messrs. Mullinger, F. J. Hutchinson, W. R. Kingston Smith, J. S. Montgomery, E. Middleton, 0. D. McLean, E. L. Williams, Mesdames G. Dyson and M. Hurst and Miss E. Fa roily and Miss Bent-ham. The election of a patron, president and vice-presidents was deferred.
